German Engineering Materials Science Centre (GEMS)
The German Engineering Materials Science Centre (GEMS) is the central user platform of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon with a worldwide unique infrastructure for complementary research with photons at the Hereon outstation at DESY in Hamburg and neutrons at the Hereon outstation at the FRM II in Garching near Munich, especially in the area of engineering materials research .
A common proposal system will allow users full access to the two complementary probes. The Centre for X-Ray and Nano Science (CXNS) will also be available for the users as part of GEMS. CXNS provides additional infrastructure, such as laboratories and workshops, which is necessary for the preparation and characterization of samples in the vicinity of the GEMS beamlines.
German Engineering Materials Science Centre (GEMS) in Helmholtz Imaging CONNECT:
Hard X-ray full-field nanotomography is an ideal technique to study the inner structure of materials non-destructively at high spatial resolution, covering research areas suchas material science, biology and medical research.
