Remotely ObServing INsitu camera for Aggregates (ROSINA)
Bremerhaven
The profiling particle camera ROSINA is a highly flexible and modular system and, thus, able to address a range of different research questions related to the biological carbon pump and organic matter transport and transformation. The system consists of a measurement unit and a control unit. The measurement unit is a stainless-steel frame with all components for the in-situ measurement consisting of the optical system (camera, lenses and light sources), computing unit, stand-alone CTD, battery and telemetry. All components of the measurement unit are rated to a depth of at least 4000 m. Since the system is equipped with telemetry (which is connected to the 11mm coax wire) the operator is able to observe the measurement and make changes via the control unit during deployment. The control unit consists of the telemetry, which provides the communication interface and power for the measurement unit, and an operator workstation.
The optical system is equipped with a high-resolution camera and flexible optics. With standard settings the system can detect particles larger then 30µm equivalent spherical diameter (ESD) in a volume of 200mL per image.
Furthermore, the system is able to accommodate further systems (i.e. UVP, JellyCam, etc.)
