WRaINfo - An open source library for weather radar information

Authors: Alice Künzel, Daniel Spengler, Julia Neelmeijer, Kai Mühlbauer

Keywords: Wrainfo, Weather radar, X-band, Preprocessing, Precipitation estimation, Attenuation correction, Clutter detection

General

The submodules of the package allow to read raw data of the WR2120 and WR2100 from FURUNO and further process it to remove ground clutter, apply attenuation correction, estimate precipitation and georeference and grid the final data.
For this purpose, many functions of the library wradlib are used and adapted. The processing is controlled by a configuration file. This allows the construction of reproducible, automatic data processing chains.

User Group

The package is publicly available from the Python package index and is already used by a community of weather radar experts.

List of features

• Raw data reader module
• Clutter detection module
• Attenuation correction module
• Precipitation estimation module
• Georeferencing and gridding module
• Process chains for operational mode
