Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics

Dr. Timothée Stassin is a researcher and project coordinator at the GFZ Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences working at the intersection of Earth observation, artificial intelligence, and forest monitoring. His work focuses on the development of AI methods and geospatial tools integrating satellite imagery and expert reference data for large-scale land use mapping and environmental reporting. He coordinates the AI4FLUM initiative in collaboration with organizations including Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, European Space Agency, and European Commission Joint Research Centre. He is currently contributing to the first global wall-to-wall map of Forest and Other Land Uses derived from FRA reference data. Within HYPERAMPLIFAI, he co-leads research on multimodal AI models combining hyperspectral imagery, LiDAR, and field inventory data for biomass estimation. His background combines engineering, data science, field operations, and international project coordination across Europe, Africa, and South America.
