I apply machine-learning tools to automatically extract biologically relevant features from plankton images. Combining human and artificial intelligence, I investigate the complex relationships between plankton community composition, biodiversity, carbon fluxes and environmental conditions. I am particularly interested in examining the effects of changing climate on the fitness-conferring traits of individual organisms in marine ecosystems.
